The Executive Director of YONECO – MacBain Mkandawire has called for concerted efforts towards empowering community members to sustainably manage Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in rural areas.
The Executive Director of YONECO made the remarks during the commemoration of ECD Awareness and Advocacy Week that was held on 18th October, 2021 in Mangochi district. Mkandawire made a speech on behalf of various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Malawi.
“Deliberate efforts need to be made for the empowerment of communities for sustainable operation of ECD Centres. Furthermore, communities need to be made aware on the importance of Early Childhood Development activities,” said Mkandawire.
The function was presided over by the Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social welfare – honourable Dr. Patricia Kaliati who officially opened Mpinganjira ECD Centre as well.
YONECO Children’s Band led the singing of the Malawi national anthem before and after the function. Further to this, the group performed a number of ECD awareness and child protection songs.
